Woodland Structural Mapping
Project type
Woodland Mapping
Date
June - Dec 2025
Location
Bontuchel, Sir Ddinbych
This project forms part of ongoing woodland LiDAR mapping work undertaken in collaboration with Natural Resources Wales (NRW). High-resolution LiDAR data was collected to map vegetation, ground surface and canopy architecture across the site.
The point cloud data was processed and classified to separate ground, low vegetation, mid-storey vegetation, canopy structure and individual trees. This enabled structural analysis including canopy gap assessment, vegetation layering, vertical structure profiling and canopy height modelling.
The outputs provide both visual and quantitative insight into woodland condition, habitat complexity and vegetation connectivity, while also creating a repeatable baseline for long-term woodland monitoring and management.
